WorkLight™ Secure RSS Reader

Adding feeds to WorkLight Secure RSS Reader

  1. Locate your desired RSS source, say, Technology on Yahoo (http://news.yahoo.com/rss), and click the RSS button next to Technology on the Yahoo site.
  2. Copy the URL from your browser’s Address field (in this case, http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/tech).
  3. In WorkLight Reader, click Edit settings in the upper right-hand pull down menu:

and paste the URL into one of the six feed address fields. Click Save.

  4. Optionally, enter the interval at which you would like to refresh the feeds (at least every 15 minutes), and the maximum number of items you wish to display per feed.

If you enter a wrong URL in one of the fields, WorkLight Reader displays an “Unsupported response” message in that field in the feed list. Go back and edit that field.

User Authentication

WorkLight is a secure RSS reader, which means that it supports feeds containing personal or sensitive data that require basic HTTP or form-based authentication. To view feeds that require authentication you need a user name and password. After the feed is retrieved, the reader displays the following message:

  1. Click on the Feed requires authentication message.

  2. When the authentication screen appears, enter your user name and password and click OK.
The reader performs the authentication every time the server provisioning the feed requires it.

Viewing Feeds

The WorkLight Reader home screen displays the feed list.

The number of items in the field is displayed in parentheses after the feed's title. If the feed contains more items than displayed, both figures will be displayed:

  1. Click on a feed to view its items.
  2. When the items are displayed, click on an item to expand it or click on the  button in the toolbar to expand all items in the feed.
  3. In the feed list, click on the right-pointing arrow  next to the feed to view the site of the feed source.
  4. In the item list, click on the right-pointing arrow  next to the item to read the full article on the site of the feed source.
  5. On the WorkLight Reader toolbar click the  button to return to the feed list.
  6. Click the  button to refresh all the feeds.
  7. Click the  button to filter feeds by category (if the source categorizes its feed items).
  8. Click on the desired category from the list displayed at the top. Only items from the selected category will be shown.
